Your Guide to Legal Stay Permits in Indonesia
A Visit Stay Permit (ITK) is a temporary stay permit issued by the Indonesian Government for foreign nationals who enter Indonesia using a Visit Visa. The ITK follows the type of Visit Visa held, such as a Visa on Arrival (VoA), Single-Entry Visit Visa, or Multiple-Entry Visit Visa.

KITAS (Temporary Stay Permit / ITAS) is an Indonesian permit that allows foreign nationals to stay legally in Indonesia for a limited period, mainly for work, study, family, or investment purposes.
KITAS CategoriesKITAS may be extended multiple times (renewable up to 5 years) as long as the applicant continues to meet the immigration requirements.
KITAS RenewalKITAS renewal must be submitted before expiration. It is recommended to initiate the process 30–45 days prior to expiry to avoid penalties.
ITAP (Permanent Stay Permit / Izin Tinggal Tetap) is a permit granted to certain Foreign Nationals to reside and settle in the Territory of Indonesia as permanent residents.

Permanent Stay Permits may be extended for an unlimited period upon application. Extension applications may be submitted no earlier than 3 (three) months before the permit expires and no later than the expiration date of the ITAP.
The extension becomes effective from the expiration date of the previous ITAP. If the application and payment have been submitted before the expiration date, the Foreign National is not considered overstaying, even if the processing extends beyond the expiration date.
