VISIT STAY PERMIT

A Visit Stay Permit (ITK) is a temporary stay permit issued by the Indonesian Government for foreign nationals who enter Indonesia using a Visit Visa. The ITK follows the type of Visit Visa held, such as a Visa on Arrival (VoA), Single-Entry Visit Visa, or Multiple-Entry Visit Visa.

A Visit Stay Permit may be granted to the following foreign nationals:

• Foreign nationals holding a Visit Visa
• Foreign nationals entering Indonesia with a Visa on Arrival (VoA)
• A newborn child born within Indonesian territory whose father and/or mother, at the time of birth, holds a valid Visit Stay Permit
• Foreign nationals from countries exempted from visa requirements in accordance with applicable laws and regulations
• Foreign nationals serving as crew members on transport vessels docked or operating within Indonesian territory, as regulated by applicable laws and regulations
• Foreign nationals entering Indonesian territory under emergency circumstances

Types of ITK and Renewal Information

An extension of the Visit Stay Permit (ITK) may be granted to holders of:

• Single-Entry Visitor Visas
• Multiple-Entry Visitor Visas
• Visas on Arrival (VoA)

Duration of Visit Stay Permit (ITK) General Requirements of ITK Renewal

Applicants must apply for the extension of a Visit Stay Permit through the designated application system (evisa.co.id) by attaching scanned copies of the following documents:

• A valid passport or travel document
• A guarantee letter from the same sponsor used during the visa application (if a sponsor is required)
• A statement letter explaining the purpose and intention of staying in Indonesia

If the applicant applies with a different sponsor, the following additional documents must be submitted:

• A statement letter signed by the foreign national declaring an objection to and refusal to be sponsored by the previous sponsor
• A statement letter of release of sponsorship from the previous sponsor

KITAS (Temporary Stay Permit / ITAS) is an Indonesian permit that allows foreign nationals to stay legally in Indonesia for a limited period, mainly for work, study, family, or investment purposes.

KITAS Categories

• Work: Permit for foreign nationals to live in Indonesia while legally working for an approved company and position.
• Family (Spouse / Child): Permit for foreign spouses or children to reside in Indonesia for family reunification.
• Study: Permit for foreign students attending schools, universities, or academic programs in Indonesia.
• Investment: Permit for foreign investors, directors, or commissioners to live in Indonesia to manage or invest in a company.

General Requirements for Granting KITAS

• Letter of application from the guarantor
• Letter of guarantee from the guarantor
• Original and copy of valid passport or travel document
• Copy of arrival stamp
• Copy of existing KITAS (for extension)
• Copy of Telex Visa or e-Visa (for new KITAS)
• Copy of sponsor’s ID Card
• Power of attorney with sufficient stamp duty (if submitted by a representative)

Duration of KITAS

• 6 Months – for certain work categories or temporary assignments
• 1 Year – most common duration
• 2 Years – limited categories such as Investor or Spouse KITAS (subject to regulations)

KITAS may be extended multiple times (renewable up to 5 years) as long as the applicant continues to meet the immigration requirements.

KITAS Renewal

KITAS renewal must be submitted before expiration. It is recommended to initiate the process 30–45 days prior to expiry to avoid penalties.

• Overstay fine: IDR 1,000,000 per day starting from the first day of overstay
• Prepare required documents such as passport, current KITAS, and sponsor letter
• Submit updated employment or family documents
• Attend biometrics or verification if required
• Pay renewal fees in accordance with Indonesian immigration regulations
• Receive approval and issuance of the renewed KITAS

ITAP (Permanent Stay Permit / Izin Tinggal Tetap) is a permit granted to certain Foreign Nationals to reside and settle in the Territory of Indonesia as permanent residents.

A Permanent Stay Permit may be granted to the following Foreign Nationals:

• Former dual-citizen children of the Republic of Indonesia who choose foreign citizenship or fail to make a citizenship choice upon reaching the age of 21 (twenty-one) while residing in the Territory of Indonesia.
• Children born in the Territory of Indonesia whose father and/or mother, at the time of birth, holds a Permanent Stay Permit for Diaspora.
• Indonesian citizens who lose Indonesian citizenship while residing in the Territory of Indonesia, including those who:
  • are granted foreign citizenship while in Indonesia;
  • are found to possess a foreign passport or passport-equivalent document, or any valid document that may be interpreted as proof of foreign nationality issued in their name; or
  • are children as regulated under Article 41 of Law Number 12 of 2006 on Citizenship who have not registered, or have registered but have not chosen their citizenship as regulated under Article 6 of Law Number 12 of 2006 on Citizenship, who reside in the Territory of Indonesia and do not possess any other stay permit.

Types of ITAP

• Spousal ITAP (Foreigners Married to Indonesian Citizens):
  • May be applied for after 2 (two) years of marriage and after previously holding an ITAS.
  • If the marriage reaches 10 (ten) years, the ITAP remains valid for life, even in the event of divorce.
• Investor / Director / Commissioner ITAP:
  • Granted to foreigners serving as company executives who have held an ITAS and IMTA consecutively for several years.
• Retirement ITAP:
  • Granted to foreigners aged above 55 (fifty-five) years who have held a retirement visa for 4 (four) consecutive years prior to application.
• ITAP for Former Indonesian Citizens / Children of Former Indonesian Citizens / Children of ITAP Holders:
  • May be granted directly without conversion from an ITAS.

Validity Period

• A Permanent Stay Permit is granted for a period of 5 (five) years.
• Permanent Stay Permits for family reunification activities are granted in accordance with the validity period of the ITAP held by the husband, wife, father, mother, or child of the ITAP holder, for a maximum period of 5 (five) years.
• Permanent Stay Permits for children born in the Territory of Indonesia whose father and/or mother holds an ITAP are granted in accordance with the validity period of the father’s and/or mother’s ITAP, for a maximum period of 5 (five) years.

Renewal

Permanent Stay Permits may be extended for an unlimited period upon application. Extension applications may be submitted no earlier than 3 (three) months before the permit expires and no later than the expiration date of the ITAP.

The extension becomes effective from the expiration date of the previous ITAP. If the application and payment have been submitted before the expiration date, the Foreign National is not considered overstaying, even if the processing extends beyond the expiration date.

Document Requirements

Adjusted requirements for ITAP extension include:

• No requirement for a minimum remaining validity period of a valid national passport;
• No requirement to submit proof of living expenses for the Foreign National.

For ITAP extensions that require a statement of commitment, applicants must attach proof of fulfillment of the commitment in the form of:

• the latest Indonesian government bonds;
• the latest proof of ownership of publicly listed company shares;
• the latest proof of mutual fund investment;
• the latest deposit account;
• the latest land and building tax receipt; or
• valid proof of cooperation with the government or state institutions,

all of which must indicate ownership under the name of the Foreign National.

Renewal Process

• Receipt of application submission
• Photo capture
• Verification of immigration fee payment in accordance with prevailing regulations
• The Head of the Immigration Office forwards the application to the Director General of Immigration
• Granting of the Permanent Stay Permit by the Directorate General of Immigration

Notes

• The Immigration Office will send electronic notification to the Foreign National, Sponsor, or Person in Charge confirming that the application documents have been received.
• If there are errors or deficiencies in the submitted documents, the Immigration Office will notify electronically and request correction or completion within a maximum of 2 (two) days from the notification date.
• If no update is made after this period, the application will be rejected.

Processing Time

• The Head of the Immigration Office forwards the application to the Director General of Immigration within a maximum of 3 (three) working days after the immigration fee is received.
• The Director General of Immigration issues a decision within a maximum of 5 (five) working days after receiving the application.
• The virtual Permanent Stay Permit is delivered electronically to the Foreign National, Sponsor, or Person in Charge.

Cost Components

• 5-Year ITAP: IDR 7,000,000 per application
• 10-Year ITAP: IDR 12,000,000 per application
• Indefinite ITAP: IDR 15,000,000 per application
